Schaerer coffee machines celebrated their 100th anniversary in 2024! In 1924, Maurice Schaerer presented his first coffee machine, laying the foundation for the company's impressive success story. Today, Schaerer continues to set new standards with innovative technologies, consistent customer-orientation and a feel for trends in the out-of-home market. The driving forces are the same as they were 100 years ago: Tireless pioneering spirit, Swiss precision work and a passion for the best coffee.

From medical device to the first coffee machine
A good 30 years before Maurice Schaerer developed the first coffee machine, he opened his small business for surgical instruments and later also developed operating tables, sterilisation and disinfection equipment. This was not only Schaerer's international breakthrough. Many years later, his many years of experience in handling steam and his technical expertise in metal processing proved to be the cornerstone for the development of the very first Schaerer coffee machine: the coffee quantity brewer.

Innovative strength spurs growth
In the decades that followed, numerous innovations characterised the company's history and spurred Schaerer's growth into one of the world's leading suppliers of fully automatic coffee machines. The most important milestones of recent decades include the development of the automatic piston machine in 1957, the first fully automatic coffee machine with dosing device and integrated grinder in 1970 and the first cappuccino system in 1997. Schaerer developed a plastic brewer as early as 1993, which has proven itself in numerous models to this day. Another technological milestone was the launch of the Best Foam milk system for barista-level milk foam in 2015, with which Schaerer ushered in a new era in the preparation of milk-based coffee specialities.

Shaping the coffee world of tomorrow
Schaerer has continued its success story over the past decade. The basis for this is the consistent focus on individual customer needs and the dynamic changes in the out-of-home coffee market and the HoReCa sector. The innovations of recent years have not only focussed on high beverage quality and variety. On the customer side, increasing cost pressure, staff shortages and the associated desire for more process automation and digitalisation also play a central role.

Solutions with vision
Examples of innovative solutions from Schaerer include the Schaerer Coffee Link digital solution, the fully automatic Schaerer ProCare cleaning system and the 30-gram brewing unit, which enables customers to prepare speciality coffees in a single grinding process and quickly prepare larger drinks. Schaerer's Hot & Cold technology and Twin Milk system also help customers to fulfil their guests' individual beverage preferences with high quality and little effort. These functions enable companies to expand their range of beverages while maximising customer loyalty and increasing sales.
